We were waiting for John Oliver to offer his thoughts on Brexit, with the Last Week Tonight host finally casting his critical eye upon the “Leave” campaign on last weekend’s edition of the HBO show.
The British comedian offered his thoughts on both the European Union and the upcoming referendum in which the UK will vote upon whether or not they should leave it, saying that although there are many things wrong with the EU, exiting would be an even worse fate for the nation.
Voters will cast their decision on whether or not the UK will remain or leave the EU on Thursday (June 23), with Oliver pleading to those who are questioning on voting for the Brexit to reconsider. Debunking multiple claims made by the likes of Boris Johnson and other prominent figures backing the Leave campaign, Oliver explains in detail the number of issues the UK will face if deciding to exit the EU. He even touches upon the subject of immigration, which has been a key factor for many in siding with the Leave campaigners, explaining how those who want to “close up our borders” may be dismayed to learn that if the UK wishes to remain on the European trading market, it will need to accept labourers coming in and out of it.
As can be expected with Oliver, the 15-minute clip is a thunderous takedown of Brexit and may change a few minds come the day of the EU referendum as a result.
