Disney’s Mary Poppins sequel is set to be released in December 2018, and now the cast has received another boost with Meryl Streep now in talks to feature in a prominent role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the Academy Award-winning actress will join Emily Blunt and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda in an all-star cast for the film.
Streep is set to play the role of Topsy, Mary Poppins’ cousin, as part of a plot that is a direct sequel to the 1964 film set many years later. In the new film, Poppins – who will be played by Blunt – returns to help Michael Banks (now an adult with kids of his own) as he struggles with personal loss.
Miranda will play the role of Poppins’ lamplighter friend Jack, a role set to mimic that of Dick Van Dyke’s Bert character from the original.
The official release date is Christmas Day, December 2018.
