The Last Guardian should finally be with us later this year, but even though it’s been in development since 2007, we’ve still seen very little footage from the heavily anticipated new game.
However, Team Ico has now seemingly granted certain YouTubers early access to the game, offering them a demo that highlights its puzzle-solving and the relationship shared between the protagonist and his giant companion. Although you wouldn’t imagine a YouTube Let’s Play to be the best place to showcase a Team Ico game given their typically esoteric nature, it will inevitably draw a lot of eyes on The Last Guardian, which it certainly needs after being delayed so many times over the course of the past few years.
The demo sees the child protagonist helping Trico, the half-bird-half-dog creature that joins you on your adventure, make its way through a series of gates by way of solving a selection of puzzles. The demo also features narration from the child as an adult, suggesting that the game will take the form of a story being re-told by the protagonist in his later years.
Although the demo doesn’t give too much away, it does highlight its wonderful animation along with showing us more of the adorable yet vaguely terrifying Trico. Check out PewDiePie playing the game in the video below:
