Radiohead, Daft Punk and The Stone Roses have emerged as potential headliners for Glastonbury 2017, after trusted festivals site eFestivals claimed “well-sourced information” had told them that the three acts would headline the Pyramid Stage at next year’s event.
The festival’s organiser Michael Eavis has already said that two of the three acts are already in place, though as per usual attendees will only find out who will be headlining when the festival makes an official announcement sometime next year. The bookies’ favourites are Guns ‘n’ Roses and Kasabian, who both share odds of 4/6, but eFestivals has claimed that neither will be filling the top slot at the three-day event.
A statement from the site reads: “eFestivals currently believes that next year Radiohead will be given that opportunity to headline on Saturday. We also strongly believe The Stone Roses are the front runners to top the bill on Sunday, and while we are less certain on the third headlining act, we have had what should be well-sourced information several months ago, that it’s supposedly Daft Punk topping the bill on the Friday.”
As per usual such rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt, though it isn’t out of the realms of possibility that these acts would perform at the festival. Radiohead have already stated that they would like to headline the event next year, while Michael Eavis also name-dropped the band during a talk at Oxford Union. The Stone Roses are also set to embark upon a short tour in 2017, stopping off at London, Belfast and Glasgow in June, so they will be available to perform at the event. Daft Punk are a more questionable choice, with them having been frequently linked with the festival for a number of years, without ever actually making an appearance. Considering that they didn’t play after the release of their last album Random Access Memories, it seems unlikely that they would top the bill in a year when they don’t have any new material to sell.
Tickets to Glastonbury 2017 have already sold out, with a date for the re-sale yet to be confirmed by its organisers. Next year’s event will be the last time festival-goers can attend before 2019, with Glastonbury set to take a fallow year in 2018. Glastonbury 2017 will take place from 21st-25th June.
