Fuelled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie Soke (Billy Bob Thornton) teams up once again with his angry little sidekick, Marcus, chubby and cheery Thurman Murman and Willie’s horror story of a mother, Sunny Soke (Kathy Bates), to rob Chicago’s Good Works Charity on Christmas Eve in Bad Santa 2.
Cristina Rosato, a Montreal native, plays Alice Johnson, and let Crave readers in on the latest (raunchier) Bad Santa.
CraveOnline: Tell us about the movie.
Cristina Rosato: I’m in NY for the premiere, and I’m so excited to see it. It’s raunchier, if that’s possible. Kathy Bates plays Billy Bob Thorton’s mom and she’s hilarious. I can’t say too much but I think fans are going to love it.
What was it like doing a comedy like this?
I’ve never worked in comedy. I have had some roles that have comedic moments but this was my first time doing more straight comedy, and it was such a different energy. Between takes, instead of staying in a dark place or connecting with the truth of a crazy story, it was me and the crew trying not to laugh. The director was so great (Mark Waters) – he was always saying, “Let’s try something completely different.” Every scene was different.
And how was it working with Billy Bob Thorton?
I didn’t even meet him! You can work on an entire movie and never meet them. I’ll be meeting him tomorrow night for the premiere.
Are there any other projects that you’re working on?
I literally just finished the TV series 21 Thunder a few days ago, so I’m thrilled about that. We were filming in Montreal, and being a Montrealer, I love Montreal. I feel like 21 Thunder really highlights Montréal as a character. And it’s a great cast. We had the wrap party a few nights ago and they showed us a few scenes from it.
Given you’re from Montreal, you must have heard about the passing of Leonard Cohen?
I went by his house and lit a candle because I was there the day the news came out. I went with my dad, and then we went for lunch in the area.
