EA’s Peter Moore is Now Liverpool’s Chief Executive Officer

Liverpool Football Club has revealed that Peter Moore will be taking over as its chief executive officer, leaving his role as chief competition officer of Electronic Arts’ competitive gaming division in order to take up the new job in June.

The 61-year-old will now report directly to Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, according to an official statement from the club. The statement reads: “The appointment completes a 10-month transition plan by FSG and finalises the senior management structure at the club.”

Born in Liverpool, Moore has had a lengthy history in the gaming industry. After being a part of the Dreamcast’s launch (and the man to announce Sega’s difficult decision to move away from console manufacturing altogether), Moore later moved to Microsoft in 2003 as corporate vice-president of its interactive entertainment division, eventually helping launch the Xbox 360.

Peter Moore was crucial to the success of EA’s FIFA series.

In 2007 he moved to EA, heading up its EA Sports division and contributing greatly to the success of the FIFA franchise. In 2015 he became the company’s CCO, which saw him managing the company’s presence in Esports. Now after 10 years he will become CEO of his boyhood club, achieving a lifelong dream and hopefully replicating the success he has enjoyed in the gaming industry.

In a heartfelt statement posted to EA’s website, EA CEO Andrew Wilson called Moore an “unbelievable teammate” and “a tireless leader for our people”, adding: “I believe deeply in following our passions and dreams in life.  Spend every moment doing something that you love.  We’ve been fortunate to have Peter doing that with us here for almost a decade.  We could not be happier to see him take the helm at Liverpool, and I personally could not be more honored to call Peter a dear friend for life.”

He concluded: “Thank you, Peter, for your passion and your leadership.  We’ll see you on the pitch at Anfield.”
