Meanwhile on Instagram: Watch ‘Salt Bae’ Squeeze Gold Burger Juice Into Whiskey Glass (Let’s Do Shots!)

If you’ve paid attention to social media in the last few years, you’ve probably heard of the man called “Salt Bae.” Back in 2017, the chef whose real name is Nusret Gökçe took the internet by storm because of his over-the-top salting of steak. The seemingly always sunglasses-wearing, Turkish dreamboat propelled his meme-dom into a chain of steak houses called Nusr-Et. Not surprisingly, a chef whose fame skyrocketed due to a meme has seen his fair share of criticisms. Many saying his food is overpriced and poor quality. To add to that, there’s a $100 burger on the menu and the famed internet chef recently did something really gross with it.

It’s called the “Gold Burger” and we’re assuming it’s so expensive because it’s wrapped in gold leaf. Why anyone would actually want to fork over that kind of cash to eat a burger, we’ll never know. We’ll throw down In-N-Out or Five Guys any day for much cheaper. Heck, even White Castle will do in a pinch.

But it’s not the burger itself that has the internet on gross-out notice. It’s what Salt Bae did with the aforementioned burger. He very dramatically (he does everything dramatically) cut a lemon and then the “Gold Burger” each in half. Then, side by side, in an effort to show how juicy (or undercooked) his burger is, he squeezed each into a glass.

Yes, we’re saying he squeezed the bloody, bright red juice of a borderline raw burger into a glass to emphasize how juicy it is. Why he did this, we’ll never know. Let’s just add it to the list of mysteries surrounding this walking internet meme and leave it at that.
