As if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (aka the Duchess of Sussex) didn’t have enough to envy – good looks, loads of money, fame, influence, and adorable kids – now they have one more covetable addition to their brood: a pawsome rescue pup named Mamma Mia!
The royal couple adopted the 7-year-old beagle and essentially saved it from a breeding facility that was shuttered due to alleged animal abuse.
“The Sussexes’ new pup is one of 4,000 beagles rescued from an Envigo RMS LLC facility in Cumberland, Virginia,” BuzzFeed News reported. “The Indianapolis-based company breeds and sells animals for use in biochemical and pharmaceutical scientific research, and the US government filed suit against it in May, alleging egregious violations of the Animal Welfare Act.”
The Beagle Freedom Project, which is based in Los Angeles, was the rescue organization that facilitated the adoption. Mamma Mia actually is a mother – of eight puppies who were also rescued.

Shannon Keith, the president and founder of the Beagle Freedom Project, told BuzzFeed News she didn’t know who the “VIP donor” named Meghan was when she spoke on the phone with Markle. When Keith told Markle about the little beagle family being saved from a lifetime of abuse, her royal highness apparently volunteered to adopt the mother.
Mamma Mia already joins a full house – including two other pups: another beagle named Guy and a black Labrador retriever named Pula, as well as rescue chickens (yes, that’s a thing).
Now if only Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took to adopting people – because we would gladly join their family. Imagine the perks! Mamma Mia is one pampered pooch indeed.
