JD Vance reveals why he did the Jim Halpert face during VP debate

In his first sit-down interview since the debate with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, JD Vance talked about the viral moment when he locked eyes with the CBS News camera. The moment created quite a buzz on the internet as users started comparing it to Jim Halpert’s memorable expressions from “The Office.”

For those unaware, Jim Halpert would look into the camera and smirk every time there was an absurd incident. This became a trending meme, which was then used by social media users to compare JD Vance’s expressions to “The Office” character during the recent debate.

Recently, JD Vance appeared on the “Ruthless” podcast and revealed that he was only waiting for his turn at the debate when he made that facial expression. He recalled, “This thing that’s gone super viral of me kind of doing the Jim from ‘The Office’ thing, looking into the camera, it’s because — I wish I could take credit for it — but it’s because I guess the timer is right by the camera.”

Vance said he was trying to pay attention to what Walz was saying, but he was also preparing himself to start speaking as soon as Walz’s time was up. The Ohio senator then confessed that the look came about when he was looking at the timer: “And so I was looking at the timer.”

However, Vance also expressed his happiness at the popularity the viral expression garnered. He also detailed his strategy going into the debate and how his wife Usha Vance motivated him to do a good job.
