Ground Beef Recall: List of Brands Affected by E. Coli Contamination

Consumers are concerned about a ground beef recall from Wolverine Packing Co. due to yet another E. coli outbreak this year. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that the Michigan establishment is recalling over 167,000 pounds of ground beef products after multiple incidents of patients (15, at the time of writing) tested positive after eating them. This USDA recall has been assigned a Class I alert, meaning that the product may cause serious, adverse health consequences, or death. Here’s a list of ground beef brands and labels impacted by this recall.

Which ground beef brands have been recalled?

Most of the ground beef brands involved with this recall have the Wolverine Packing Co. label on it and were shipped primarily to restaurants. To be safe, however, here’s every brand of ground beef that has been recalled today:

  • 1855
  • CB (Custom Blend)
  • Cheney’s Angus Burgers
  • Cheney Brothers, Inc.
  • Davis Creek Meats
  • DVPG Farmer’s Choice
  • Heritage Restaurant Brands

The fresh products that were recalled have a “use by” date of November 14, 2024 while the frozen products have a production date of October 10, 2024. For a more thorough list, these are all of the labels and the full product list for grocers and restaurants.

The FSIS urges restaurants to check their refrigerators and freezers for potentially contaminated ground beef. Contaminated products were shipped to several restaurants in Minnesota, including multiple Red Cow locations and Hen House Eatery in Minneapolis, per KARE 11.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture identified the outbreak on November 20 from a ground beef sample contaminated with E. coli O157. This strain is a “potentially deadly bacterium” that causes bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and dehydration, possibly leading to kidney failure. The FDA and CDC have not issued a warning concerning this ground beef recall.

Earlier this week, multiple brands of carrots and baby carrots were also recalled due to a E. coli outbreak. And in late October, McDonald’s had stopped selling Quarter Pounders amid yet another E. coli outbreak due to contaminated slivered onions.
