Yesterday, word leaked out that “Fringe” co-creators Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci were planning to shop a new “Sleepy Hollow” TV series to various broadcast networks in the near future. Less than a day later, the project already has a home.
Deadline is reporting that Fox has stepped up with an immediate put pilot commitment; which means that the network will pay a substantial penalty if the “Sleepy Hollow” pilot isn’t aired. That usually indicates that a series pickup is likely as well.
Kurtzman and Orci are co-writing the “Sleepy Hollow” script with newcomer, Phillip Iscove based upon Washington Irving’s classic short story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” The new “Sleepy Hollow” series will take place in the present day as Ichabod Crane teams up with the female sheriff of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mysteries of the town which are tied to a larger war between good and evil. Underworld director, Len Wiseman is already slated to helm the “Sleepy Hollow” pilot.
Strangely enough, the CW is also in talks with screenwriters Patrick Macmanus and Grant Scharbo (“Missing”) for another modern day take on “Sleepy Hollow;” which would follow FBI Agent Ichabod Crane as he arrives in town to investigate a brutal beheading. Several industry observers have noted the similarities to a situation from the previous pilot season in which ABC and the CW both pursued TV series based upon “Beauty and the Beast;” with the CW ultimately going forward with their reboot of the ’80s “Beauty and the Beast” show.
