Jason Segel To Star In Canadian Maple Syrup Heist

A new film about a maple syrup caper will see A-lister Jason Segel in the starring role.

According to an article on Deadline.com, “Identity Thief’s” Seth Gordon will direct while “Family Guy’s” Chris Sheridan is writing the script. Barry Josephson is producing with Gordon and Segel. The comedy was inspired by actual events reported in “The Gazette” in Montreal where over $20 million worth of maple syrup was stolen in 2012 from Quebec’s Federation of Maple Syrup Producers and, to date, over 20 individuals have been arrested in conjunction with the heist as prosecutors try to make the charges stick (the RCMP in New Brunswick recovered some of the stolen goods).

Segel has been one of the stars of the hit comedy “How I Met Your Mother,” and has moved into work on the big screen, appearing in such titles as “The Five-Year Engagement,” “This Is 40,” and “The Muppets.” He has been nominated for two Teen Choice Awards and an MTV Movie Award.
