This Sunday’s third season finale will presumably reveal whether Damian Lewis’ Nicholas Brody miraculously gets out of his current predicament. But whether Brody lives or dies, there are big changes coming to “Homeland” next season.
TVLine broke the story that Morena Baccarin and Morgan Saylor will not be returning as series regulars for the fourth season of “Homeland.” Although the report notes that both actresses may appear as guest stars next season. Baccarin plays Brody’s former wife, Jessica and Saylor portrays their troubled daughter, Dana.
For Baccarin, “Homeland” came quickly after the demise of her previous TV series, “V” and her performance as Jessica during the second season earned her an Emmy nomination.
However, Saylor’s Dana has been a divisive presence on “Homeland” since the first season. Dana has been compared to Kim Bauer from the first few seasons of “24,” due to her outlandish CW style subplots including a hit-and-run car accident with the Vice President’s son last season and Dana’s runaway adventure in the third season alongside a young man who may or may not have been a murderer.
Given the way that events have played out in recent episodes, it seems likely that both Jessica and Dana will appear in the third season finale if only for their reactions to Brody’s time in Iran. Both characters have been largely sidelined for several episodes, in part due to Baccarin’s pregnancy.
