Listen: Frank Ocean, Diplo & The Clash Join Forces on ‘Hero’

Converse’s long-running Three Artists, One Song series keeps the wow factor strong with its latest collaboration offering. We first heard of the collaboration with the Gorillaz, André 3000, and James Murphy collabo-track “DoYaThing” – and now the project jacks it up a notch with an even better mix, which you can download for free.

The song features Frank Ocean’s first recorded project in two years, as well as producer Diplo and The Clash’s legendary Mick Jones and Paul Simonon. The four have teamed up for a song called “Hero,” which evenly balances beauty and strength in a captivating uniqueness that keeps sunshine at the forefront, with a ship-swaying chorus and a surprise children’s-choir breakdown.

Diplo gave some backstory on the sonic mission of the collaboration:

“The Clash were always teachers to me,” he explained, “even before I shared a studio with Paul and Mick. Their musical anarchy and constant attitude to disregard rules and forge their own path was inspirational to me. They meant death to genres, music and message above everything. Frank lives by the same creed in being married to his vision and seeing it through at any cost. We had to challenge each other to make something that we hope no one could expect and Converse valued everyone’s artistic freedom to let us shine throughout the past few months to make this thing happen.”
