Listen: New Music From Eagle And The Worm

Eight-piece machine Eagle and the Worm debuted a brand single on Monday.

‘Automatic’ was premiered on Triple J ahead of its release this Saturday for Record Store Day.

The sizeable Melbourne group have put together another energetic track after the success of the band’s 2011 Goodtimes, which led to appearances at Big Day Out, Falls Festival and prominent international festivals End of the Road and Electric Picnic.

Eagle and the Worm are following up 2012’s Strange Love EP with a new album expected soon.

“I guess we’ve been probably recording and writing for the album since the Strange Love EP, which came out at the end of 2012,” lead singer Jarrad Brown told Triple J.

“So we’ve in and out of various states of demoing and recording. ‘Automatic’ came out when we hit Sing Sing studios in Melbourne in about October last year. I took inspiration from a sample of a ‘70s funk track for it, I can’t remember the name of it.”

“It’s not finished completely – it’s still pretty open, actually,” he continued. “I feel like we’ve crossed a line in terms of where it’s heading and where we need to be. But there’s still stuff like my vocals, for example, I never record them until the end because it’s advantageous to put your voice across a track when you know what it’s going to sound like. So we’re still waiting on finishing touches, but a lot of it is across the line. It’ll be out later this year.”
