A few weeks back, Bruce Timm hinted at a “Batman Beyond” animated short that was created to celebrate Batman’s 75th anniversary. Today at WonderCon, DC and Warner Bros. Animation unveiled the entire “Batman Beyond” short and put it online.
As a short explanation for anyone new to “Batman Beyond,” the series debuted in 1999 and took place several decades in the future as an elderly Bruce Wayne (Kevin Conroy) mentored a new Batman, Terry McGinnis (Will Friedle).
In the new short, both Conroy and Friedle reprise their roles as the Batcave is invaded by… Batman? Joining Timm on this animated short was acclaimed comics creator, Darwyn Cooke, who previously designed the “Batman Beyond” opening credit sequence.
My theory on the robot Batmen? I think that H.A.R.D.A.C. is back from “Batman: The Animated Series.” H.A.R.D.A.C. was kind of that show’s take on Skynet from The Terminator films.
I loved this short and it proves that “Batman Beyond” still has life in it. Bring it back, Warner Bros. and DC!
