If there’s one game that would fit perfectly on Wii U, it’s Minecraft. It’s child-friendly, a best-seller, and its interface could benefit from the GamePad. You’d think Nintendo would make a move, but they haven’t. Or have they?
Kotaku‘s Stephen Totilo had a chance to speak to Shigeru Miyamoto at E3, who he asked about Minecraft. Miyamoto said:
I haven’t played it myself, but I have heard quite a bit about it. I think [Takahashi] knows more about it than I do. But I like that style of game, and I look at Mario Maker as being something in a similar vein.
After Totilo shared his interest in Minecraft coming to Wii U, Miyamoto replied:
Maybe we’re meeting with them! Who knows?
Really, if Minecraft never comes to Wii U it’d be a great tragedy. Sure, it’s already sold tens of million of units, but its affordable pricing and game structure makes it a game that is attractive for multiple purchases.

Minecraft is currently on just about every platform you can think of, including iOS and Android. It wouldn’t be such a bad idea to integrate Nintendo’s newly announced Amiibo NFC platform into the game, allowing players to build as their favorite Nintendo characters. As wild as that would be, there’s a lot of potential for Nintendo to do some special things with a Wii U version of Minecraft.
