Well that didn’t take long. St. Louis quarterback Sam Bradford got hurt again, ending his 2014 season before it even began.
Bradford re-tore his ACL Monday night in a preseason game against the Browns. The injury prone veteran missed most of last season after tearing the same ACL and has started very few games in his five-year career due to injuries. In fact, he’s missed 31 of 80 possible games.
As it is many times with such an injury, the play causing the torn ACL looked pretty benign.
So now who do the Rams turn to? Right now it’s backup Shaun Hill, the 34-year-old vet who has an 85.9 career quarterback rating. He has a career 13-13 record as a starter. Not bad. Not great. Not someone who will likely lead you out of the toughest division in football.
Rumors instantly started swirling the Rams would go after Eagles backup Mark Sanchez. Now, reports are saying not so fast. One contact said that there is “no chance” Sanchez leaves Philly for the Rams.
Ryan Mallet, Kirk Cousins and Chase Daniel have been mentioned as popular suggestions for the Rams. Matt Flynn and Case Keenum are two intriguing options; both players who have been previously touted as prized talent who have either never lived up to expectations or simply haven’t been given the right opportunity within the right system. Mallet might be the most talented but no one knows yet if a trade is realistic.
There is also a former national champion and Heisman Trophy winner on the wire right now whom I think should get a crack at the job. His name is Tim Tebow!
