Neil Young is divorcing his wife Pegi of 36 years, reports are saying – Rolling Stone magazine says that the last time the couple performed on stage together was at last year’s Bridge School benefit (CTV News).
In the same Rolling Stone article, it was revealed that Neil Young submitted a dissolution of marriage at the end of July in California, and is due to appear in court in December.
The couple, who were known to perform together (she acted as his back-up singer for a number of years), met in the mid-1970s and have three children, two of whom have cerebral palsy – the couple started The Bridge School, which helps physically challenged children overcome their impairments via the use of technology. “It took time to get used to the fact that it wasn’t one but two,” Mr. Young told Time magazine in 2005 (via National Post). “Eventually Pegi and I just came to the understanding that we had been chosen, and this was one of the things we were going to do with our life, turning this situation into something positive for all kinds of kids.”
Pegi has also enjoyed a relatively successful solo career, releasing three albums (with some tracks that included Neil’s guitar strumming). She was also very involved in her then-husband’s Farm Aid benefit concerts.
According to the same National Post article, both Neil and Pegi were scheduled to play at a Farm Aid concert next month, however her name has since been removed from the line-up.
