During last year’s development season, Warner Bros. aggressively pitched its DC Comics characters and landed four new TV series. This year, Warner Bros. isn’t slowing down.
According to Deadline, Fox has given a put-pilot commitment to “Lucifer,” an adaptation of the DC Comics/Vertigo Lucifer comic book series written by Mike Carey in 2000. The Lucifer comic was a spinoff from The Sandman and it followed the fallen angel, Lucifer Morningstar after he abandoned his position as the Lord of Hell to live on Earth.
The description of the potential “Lucifer” TV series appears to be taking its cue from the comics, as Lucifer settles down in “the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux.”
“Callifornication” creator Tom Kapinos is writing the Lucifer adaptation and he will also serve as an executive producer on the project.

Earlier this month, word broke that Warner Bros. TV is also planning a Supergirl TV series and a Titans pilot at TNT. However, “Lucifer” is the first DC Comics inspired series to land a put-pilot order. That means that Fox will pay a substantial penalty if they don’t order the pilot episode.
If “Lucifer” is given a full pilot order from Fox, it will likely compete for a slot on Fox’s Fall 2015 lineup.
