During “Breaking Bad,” Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) and Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) weren’t on great terms, but they at least had a professional relationship. Mike was introduced as Saul’s P.I. and fixer, but he was really working for Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito); the owner of a chain of chicken restaurants and one of the biggest drug kingpins in the southwest.
While “Breaking Bad” is over, AMC is revisiting the franchise with “Better Call Saul,” an upcoming prequel series that explores Odenkirk’s character before he became the infamous Saul Goodman. In this show, Saul is still going by his real name, Jimmy McGill. And unlike his future self, Jimmy is a very small time lawyer.
To take advantage of the millions of fans watching a lackluster midseason finale of “The Walking Dead, AMC debuted the first preview scene from “Better Call Saul.” Unfortunately, it came wrapped in a car commercial. But we do get to see one of the first interactions between Saul and Mike.
And let’s just say that Saul severely underestimates Mike here.
“Better Call Saul” will premiere on Sunday, February 8 on AMC before settling in on its regular night on Monday, February 9 at 10pm.
