It’s been a milestone year of bravery for Jennifer Lawrence, who’s gone from a nude hacking scandal to putting her singing chops on display in the latest Hunger Games installment. And now she’s cracking the Top 40, earning the title of legitimate pop star.
CraveOnline’s Mockingjay Review: Memes Required For Revolution
In JLaw’s new film, the third installment in the Hunger Games series, Mockingjay – Part 1, her character Katniss Everdeen performs “The Hanging Tree,” a song she learned from her father which also serves as the rebels’ new battle cry. The song from the movie’s soundtrack debuted this week, and is on track to break the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It will fare even better in the UK, on course to break into the Top 20.
Lawrence had never sung in front of people before the recording of the track, and reportedly cried during the experience. Mockingjay director Francis Lawrence may have shared tales of her trepidation, but Lawrence herself joked on “SNL” that her singing sounds like “a deer caught that has been in a fence.” Judge for yourself above.
