When I first saw previews for HBO’s new series Ballers, I thought it was going to be another show that glorified celebrity, like Entourage. The preview trailer made it seem like it was about Dwayne Johnson raking in the cash as a former NFL player turned financial advisor. I was pleasantly surprised when Ballers turned out to be a show that took on the real issues in the sporting world (drug abuse, financial problems, head injuries, etc.).
Is HBO’s Ballers the next great HBO series? After watching the first four episodes of the series, our friends at Social Underground think it just might be. HBO will premiere Ballers at 10 p.m. June 21 after the 2nd season premiere of True Detective.
