With The Libertines having just released their comeback album Anthems for Doomed Youth, which has attracted a reasonably positive reception, the band were set to play a show in their old haunt, Camden, yesterday. However, with fans having already made their way into the Electric Ballroom, staff members were forced to announce over the venue’s PA system that they were pulling the gig after it was revealed that Pete Doherty had gone missing.
The official statement from the band was that a “medical emergency” had led to the performance being cancelled, with his manager refusing to give a statement in regards to his whereabouts. After fans grew concerned, the band posted an update on their official Facebook page today, reading: “We can assure everyone that Peter is safe. Clearly this is a very private matter in many respects, but we also feel it necessary to let people know he is ok.”

With Doherty’s history of substance abuse and addiction, many are concerned that he may have relapsed. Fans who were packed into the venue were unhappy with the news that it had been cancelled, throwing pint cups onto the stage in protest, though the band have stated that the show will be rescheduled, along with their performance at Manchester’s Ritz this evening.
It has not been confirmed what the medical emergency entailed, and the band has stated that they will update fans in regards to when the London and Manchester gigs will take place after they are rescheduled.
