Always the bear with many hands in the honeypot, rapper Drake is venturing into the restaurant biz, teaming up with Canadian celeb chef Susur Lee and opening an Asian eatery called Fring’s in downtown Toronto.
Some high-profile friends were on-hand for the opening, including tennis superstar Serena Williams along with Jada Pinkett Smith and son Jaden Smith.
Williams tweeted: “Well, #JaydenSmith just bumped into me at #FringsToronto. And now he’s dancing like a boss. It’s all in a day’s work.”
If Lee looks familiar, it’s because he finished second in 2010’s Top Chef Masters, and he currently runs Lee, Bent and Luckee in Toronto and Tunglok Heen in Singapore.
Fring’s is located where Crush Wine Bar on King Street West used to be. According to various reports, it’s an Asian fusion-inspired restaurant. Lee’s son Levi Bent-Lee, who is apparently also involved in the new venture, told the CBC that Drake is “a good friend of ours and he’s a supporter of ours. Anything that Drake supports – especially when it has anything to do with Toronto – it’s amazing what he’s done for the city. Just being a friend of his and asking his opinion on certain things has been a blessing.”
