Jurgen Klopp is set to sign a three-year contract with Liverpool by the end of the week, according to reports, as the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager looks set to replace Brendan Rodgers in his role with the Merseyside club.
Rodgers was removed from his post at Liverpool on Sunday, with the club revealing that Klopp was their first choice for his replacement. It has been reported that Klopp has accepted a deal from the club, and that he will head to Anfield within the next 48 hours in order to continue with negotiations.
It was speculated that Rodgers had been suddenly ousted as manager of the club due to another manager becoming available, and Klopp’s sudden appointment as his successor will cement that theory. Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have made it clear that they wanted Klopp as the club’s manager since 2010, though Klopp was enjoying success in Germany at the time.

Liverpool have allegedly secured Klopp by agreeing to a contract clause which will see him being given final say over any future transfer negotiations made by the club. Meanwhile, Rodgers left for Spain following the announcement of his sacking, releasing a statement to the press after hearing the news, which reads: “It has been both an honour and a privilege to manage one of the game’s great clubs for the last three years. I expect to see them continue to grow and develop over the coming weeks and I wish them and my successor well for the rest of the season. Liverpool has a magnificent football heritage and I have nothing but respect and admiration for the history, tradition and values that make the city and the club so exceptional.
“As well as my players, I would like to thank everyone connected with the club; Fenway Sports Group, the Liverpool directors, in particular Ian Ayre, my coaching staff, the staff throughout the club, the volunteers, the academy staff and its young players and of course the amazing Liverpool fans for their unwavering support, passion and dedication, which has made my time at the club so special.
“Finally, I would like to give a special mention to John W. Henry, Tom Werner and Mike Gordon. They gave me this great opportunity and, even though we will no longer be working together, I am sure our relationship and friendship will continue into the future.”
