New York Comic Con | Stan Lee & William Shatner Team Up For New Project

It’s a time honored tradition for comic book companies to one-up each other in the convention news cycle. That level of competitiveness even extends to the rival film studios. Did you think it was a coincidence that Marvel announced Ant-Man and The Wasp so close to Warner Bros.’ more concrete plans for the DC Dark Universe film?

Today, Stan Lee used that competitive spirit when Deadline announced that he and William Shatner are working on a project together. The project is real, but the announcement was also used as a way to promote Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo while downplaying the importance of NYCC. Lee and Shatner won’t formally reveal what they are working on until Comikaze returns to Los Angeles for its fifth annual show from October 30 to November 1.

Lee is considered to be one of the most important architects of superhero comics, having co-created the Avengers, X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Iron Man, Hulk, and so many others. In more recent years, Lee has produced other creator creations through his Stan Lee’s POW Entertainment. Shatner is best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk on Star Trek and its first seven feature films. Shatner has also written or co-written novels about Kirk and the Tek War series.

As part of the non-announcement announcements, Lee’s Comikaze revealed that both Lee and Shatner will be the guests of honor at Comikaze alongside comic veterans Grant Morrison, Mike Mignola, Rob Liefeld, and Marc Silvestri.
