Discovery’s Mythbusters Will End In 2016

The Mythbusters TV series began 12 years ago on The Discovery Channel, but the end is in sight.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Discovery Channel is wrapping up Mythbusters in 2016 after its 14th season. Series hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman will be back for the final season. By Discovery’s count, the Mythbusters TV series will have explored 1,050 myths, performed 2,950 experiments, and rigged 900 explosions over the course of 248 episodes.

The entire library of Mythbusters episodes will be shifted over to Discovery’s sister network, The Science Channel, with a massive Mythbusters marathon kicking things off on December 23 and running through January 3, 2016.

In a statement, Savage said “making Mythbusters has fundamentally and irrevocably altered the way I think as a person, as an artist, and as a scientist. I’m glad for the chance to say goodbye with some of the best television we’ve ever made. I will miss making this show.”

Hyneman added that he “never dreamed we would be on television at all, much less for such a long time and with so much praise for keeping a thought provoking show on the air. And best of all, we were able to do what we do and still have all our fingers and toes.”

Savage and Hyneman will continue working together on a new spy drama for CBS that is loosely based upon their real lives. Very loosely. As for the final season of Mythbusters, it will reportedly include “some of the biggest myths the series has ever tested in categories including car stunts, social science, viral videos, explosions and rockets.”
