Exclusive Preview | Mike Mignola & Christopher Golden’s Joe Golem: Occult Detective # 1

In 2012, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola reteamed with author Christopher Golden on an illustrated novel called Joe Golem and the Drowning City. Three years later, Mignola and Golden are bringing Joe Golem to comics in a new five-issue miniseries from Dark Horse Comics!

Joe Golem: Occult Detective # 1 will be co-written by Mignola and Golden, with art by Patric Reynolds and colors by Dave Stewart. Dave Palumbo is the cover artist of Joe Golem. The comic book takes place prior to the novel, and it’s primarily set forty years after a cataclysmic event left lower Manhattan permanently under 30 feet of water…hence the name, “the Drowning City.”

While Bleeding Cool debuted the first three pages of Joe Golem earlier this month, CraveOnline is representing those pages here with three exclusive pages that continue the storyline!

The first four pages take place in 1955, as private investigator Simon Church laments the loss of his latest human partner. Church was human once…before he used magic and other unknown means to artificially extend his life. And he’s still human enough to feel grief for his friends, before something inexplicable happens…and his golem comes to life! From there, the focus shifts to 1965, as Joe Golem looks over the Drowning City and an unfortunate couple falls prey to a new kind of robbery.

The five issue Joe Golem miniseries will contain two stories. “The Rat Catcher” is the first ot the two stories, and it features Joe as he attempts to track down missing children who have been abducted by a strange creature.

Joe Golem: Occult Detective # 1 will be released on Wednesday, November 4 in comic stores everywhere.
