The Doctor Who 2015 Christmas Special Heads To Movie Theaters

On December 25, Peter Capaldi will celebrate his second anniversary as the Twelfth Doctor on Doctor Who with his second Doctor Who Christmas Special on BBC America. But if you can wait a few days longer, you’ll be able to see the Doctor’s newest adventure on the big screen!

Fathom Events and BBC are once again teaming up for a two-night event that will bring the Doctor Who 2015 Christmas Special into at least 300 movie theaters across North America. This year’s Christmas special will feature a guest appearance by Alex Kingston as River Song, the Doctor’s wife, who hasn’t been seen since the seventh season finale of Doctor Who. This will also be the first onscreen meeting between River and the Twelfth Doctor.

To extend the run time and offer an incentive for Whovians to come out, the Doctor Who theatrical event will include an exclusive interview with Kingston and a 15 minute behind-the-scenes featurette about the making of this year’s Christmas special. Both Capaldi and series showrunner, Steven Moffat will appear in that video.

The two night event will be held on December 28 and 29 at 7:30pm local time, and tickets will go on sale this Friday, November 13 on FathomEvents.com. But if Doctor Who isn’t your thing, then you’re in luck. BBC and Fathom Events are also putting on a theatrical release of the Sherlock standalone Christmas special that places Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s Sherlock Holmes and John Watson back in the Victorian era from which they originated! The Sherlock Christmas Special will be in theaters on January 5 and 6, 2016.
