K’naan is looking for Canada’s next big star for a role in a new television series, The Recruiters, which the Canadian rapper said is being backed by HBO (CBC News) – poets, musicians and rappers were invited to audition in K’naan’s hometown of Etobicoke.
“To me K’naan has been very important in my life because I not only see a black figure, but a Somali black figure in the entertainment world, which shows me that if he can do it then I can also do it,” said 20-year-old Somalian actor Yousef Makaran to CBC News.
“What I see from him is the grind,” Husam Alaghabria, or “Poetik Wizdom,” said of K’naan. “Going from Toronto all the way to HBO, it’s amazing and it lets other people know that whatever you set your mind to you can also achieve.”
The storyline of the project has yet to be revealed.
