In the Marvel Universe, particularly in the X-Men books, the romance between Rogue and Gambit has been on-again and off-again for over two decades. But it’s actually been quite a while since Gambit and Rogue appeared in the same comic book together. In fact, neither of them are X-Men anymore.
The last time Gambit was seen, he was a member of the corporate X-Factor team. As for Rogue, she is one of the few mutants left on the Avengers Unity Division within the pages of Uncanny Avengers. Rogue has become the field leader of her Avengers team, but she’s far from happy with her circumstances. The Inhumans terrigen mists have ravaged her body and threatened the very existence of mutants…and she’s also stuck on a team with Deadpool, Marvel’s “Merc with a Mouth” who is very popular with readers…but less so with the characters who actually have to deal with him.
But in this week’s Uncanny Avengers # 5, Rogue and Gambit will reunite, and the cover even invokes their classic image from X-Men # 24. Whether their reunion will be a happy one remains to be seen. Rogue and her Avengers team are leading the hunt for the Red Skull, the Nazi madman who has all of the mutant powers of the late Charles Xavier. In these preview pages, Rogue, Human Torch, Cable, and Deadpool confront several supervillains on a luxury cruise for leads on the Red Skull, and they aren’t leaving without answers!
