This Sunday, Tom Hardy is up for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance in The Revenant. And while Hardy has new feature film roles lined up, he is also set to return to television in FX’s Taboo, an original miniseries created by Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy.
Hardy is also executive producing the eight-episode Taboo miniseries with Ridley Scott and Steven Knight. The story takes place in 1814 and stars Hardy as James Keziah Delaney; a man thought to be dead during his years in Africa. But while James is very much alive, he’s no longer the same person he was before his African adventures.
When Taboo begins, Delaney arrives in London just in time to attend his father’s funeral and assume control of his shipping empire. That alone makes James the target of the East India Company and other enemies. According to the series’ description, “His father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.”
FX has released the first trailer for Taboo, and it’s appropriately bananas. Plus, Jonathan Pryce is prominently featured as one of James’ adversaries within the East India Company…and he probably has no idea who he’s really up against.
Taboo doesn’t currently have a release date, but it’s expected to debut in 2017.
