Geena Davis Needs an Exorcist on Fox

William Peter Blatty’s horror classic, The Exorcist is getting a modern reboot on Fox, and the project now has its female lead.

According to Deadline, Geena Davis has signed on to star in The Exorcist as Angela Rance, a “naturally beautiful, regal and proud” woman whose faith is tested due to her family’s struggles and her recurring nightmares about a demon.

Sounds like Davis’ character needs an Exorcist. Fortunately, two have already been hired for the show. Alfonso Herrera is playing Father Tomas Ortega and Ben Daniels will portray Father Marcus Lang as they attempt to free a family in the grip of a demonic possession over the course of a season. Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four) wrote the script for The Exorcist reboot.

While Davis is best known for her film roles in Beetlejuice, Thelma & Louise, A League of Their Own, Cutthroat Island, and The Long Kiss Goodnight, she is no stranger to television, Davis starred in the ABC drama Commander in Chief (pictured above), The Geena Davis Show, and she had a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy.

Hannah Kasulka and Brianne Howey have also been cast in The Exorcist as Casey and Charlotte, the children of Davis’ character. It’s likely that Charlotte will end up going the Regan MacNeil route as the demon’s preferred plaything.

The Exorcist will compete for a slot on Fox’s fall 2016. Production is expected to begin on the pilot soon.
