Meet Your New Favorite Woman on the Internet | Emily Ratajkowski

Typically in this series, we focus on women who you may not have heard of, but there’s simply no escaping Emily Ratajkowski right now.

The model first shot to fame after appearing in Robin Thicke’s controversial ‘Blurred Lines’ video, but has recently made it back into the headlines after pledging her support to Kim Kardashian, who came under fire recently for taking a nude photo of herself and posting it to Twitter.

After Kim’s photo was roundly criticized across the Internet, Emily appeared alongside the reality TV star in a semi-naked photo, alongside the caption: “We are more than just our bodies, but that doesn’t mean we have to be shamed for them or our sexuality.”

While Emily already had a staggering Instagram following of over 5 million people, her appearance with Kim drastically raised her profile, and she hasn’t remained too far out of the news since.

Though she was criticized for supposedly being “opportunistic” and “doing feminism wrong,” Emily proudly stood behind the message that she’ll do whatever she wants with her body, and no one else has any reasonable justification to undermine her for doing so.

But her half-naked bathroom photo with Kim Kardashian was hardly the first time Emily has promoted this message. Back in an interview in mid-2015, she spoke openly on the subject of female empowerment, saying: “I think it’s a really interesting indication, not only that this issue is still taboo and that people are afraid to be political, but that it is something women still feel ashamed of. I think celebrating and finding a joy in my sexuality has empowered me, personally and professionally.

“I’ve spent my life feeling unashamed of my womanhood and confident in myself, and that has made navigating life less complicated in a misogynistic society, in my industry, and in my relationships with men and my friendships with other women. I’m lucky that I can wear what I want, sleep with who I want, and dance how I want, while still being a feminist.”
