Elon Musk’s Mom Under Fire for Promoting Having Kids While Poor

Elon Musk’s mom, Maye Musk, is under fire after promoting having kids even if one cannot afford it in an interview. During her recent appearance on “Fox & Friends,” Maye suggested ways in which people can manage having kids even when it’s financially not feasible. Her comments came in response to interviewer Rachel Campos-Duffy’s question concerning her previous post on X (formerly Twitter) on the subject. In the post, she briefly mentioned her family’s financial evolution after having kids, implying that people can cut out certain expenses to make this a feasible option.

Elon Musk’s mom Maye receives backlash for encouraging people to have children they can’t afford

After Rachel Campos-Duffy brought up the subject during the interview, Elon Musk’s mother, Maye, proposed ways to cut down on certain expenses to afford to have kids. “You don’t have to go to the movies,” she said, adding, “You don’t have to go out for dinner.” She also remarked that having children is one of the “most wonderful gifts you can ever have.”

Before that, Maye Musk detailed her motherhood journey as a mom of three in the same context. The billionaire’s mother revealed that she and her former husband, Errol Musk, lived in a “two-bedroom small apartment overlooking a garage” when they had their first child. She then explained they only moved into a different “apartment with a view” after welcoming their second kid the next year. Finally, Maye stated they had a “two-bedroom house” by the time they had their third child. “As you move on, you start doing better and better,” she noted.

Previously, both Elon Musk and his mom had expressed their opinions on the subject referring to a comedian’s post on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that having children is too expensive. In her post, Maye Musk stated that they “didn’t go out for dinner nor to the movies” and “upgraded our lifestyle” after her ex-husband got a promotion. Additionally, she noted, “I never felt like I was sacrificing anything” and urged people to “have children, add value to your life.”

Since the interview aired, Maye has received intense backlash, with people pointing out her privilege, with some commenters describing her as “tone deaf” and “delusional.”
