2016 Screen Music Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 2016 Screen Music Awards have been announced, with the score for The Dressmaker leading the pack. David Hirschfelder, who composed the score for the Kate Winslet-starring film, has been nominated for both Feature Film Score Of The Year and Best Soundtrack Album.

Feature Film Score Of The Year is the awards’ top honour, and this year Hirschfelder is joined by Cezary Skubieszewski (Oddball), Antony Partos and Matteo Zingales (99 Homes) and Timothy Cheel and Christopher Lakin (Crew Cut).

The awards are due to be held at Sydney’s City Recital Hall on Tuesday, 8th November and are run by APRA AMCOS and the AGSC (Australian Guild Of Screen Composers). It’s not only a celebration of the best film scores but also television, advertisements, short films and documentaries.

Among the other nominees in the other categories are Aussie singer-songwriter Sally Seltmann and ex-The Avalanches member Darren Seltmann, who have picked up a nomination for Best Original Song Composed For Screen for their track Dancing In The Darkness from The Letdown.

TV theme scores for shows including Compass, Tomorrow When The War Began and Here Come The Habibs have also been given nods.

The winners will be decided by a panel of Aussie film and television composers while the award ceremony will be hosted by The Chaser’s Chris Taylor and Andrew Hanson. Check out the full list of nominees, below.
