Over 60 years before the events of Hellboy, Sir Edward Grey – the Witchfinder – was one of the leading experts in the field of the unnatural. And while Sir Edward had a skill for unmasking mystical frauds, he was no stranger to the otherworldly events of Mike Mignola’s comic book universe!
Mignola and co-writer Chris Roberson have reteamed for a new miniseries, Witchfinder: City of the Dead with artist Ben Stenbeck, colorist Michelle Madsen, and cover artist Julian Totino Tedesco. In the first issue, the clock was turned back to the summer of 1882, as ancient temple was unearthed beneath London. Sir Edward was reluctantly drawn in to investigate the story of a man who claimed to have been attacked by corpses, only to discover that the victim had become one of the living dead as well. Upon taking the case, Sir Edward was approached by his old enemies, the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra before witnessing the rise of even more zombies.
CraveOnline’s exclusive preview for Witchfinder: City of the Dead # 2 picks up some time after the cliffhanger ending, as Sir Edward discovers that a message may be waiting in his dreams.
Here’s Dark Horse Comics’ solicitation copy for the issue:
“After narrowly surviving an attack by risen corpses in a London cemetery, Sir Edward Grey follows his only lead to a dead end, but the Heliopic Brotherhood of Ra may be able to reveal what is behind the undead.”
