‘American Horror Story’ Gets Renewed For Season 7

It should come as no surprise that American Horror Story will return to FX. The yearly anthology miniseries has been one FX’s biggest hits since 2011, and it was only a matter of time before the network officially ordered a seventh season. Today, the word finally came down.

“Ryan [Murphy], Brad [Falchuk] and their team of remarkable writers have done an amazing job of keeping American Horror Story endlessly inventive, shocking and entertaining and we are honored to move ahead with them on the seventh installment,” said FX’s John Landgraf in the announcement. “The sustained success through six installments only proves how intensely the series resonates with fans. AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style. Each new installment is a cultural event, hotly anticipated for its theme, imagery, cast and twists. We thank the creators and their team, the cast and everyone who has continued to make AHS such an extraordinary series.”

The problem with American Horror Story is that it’s done so many different genres in the first six seasons that it’s difficult to see how the show can once again reinvent itself. This year’s incarnation, “My Roanoke Nightmare” at least has the advantage of putting a fresh spin on it by parodying the paranormal recreation shows of basic cable, but the response has been somewhat divisive. There are some indications that the seasons of the series have greater connections, which is something that could be explored later this season or some time in the future. But for now, we can barely hazard a guess about what season 7 will be about when it returns to FX in fall 2017.
