The latest drug scare at an electronic music festival happened in Australia this weekend. In what has been described as “one of Melbourne’s worst instances of drug overdose” by local newspaper The Age, Melbourne’s Electric Parade festival is reporting that 22 festival goers were hospitalized from a GHB overdose on Saturday evening, many of whom remain in critical condition.

According to Ambulance Victoria state health commander Paul Holman, the tragedy didn’t stop there with the initial hospitalization. “We’ve transported 22 people from that event alone, and we’re now up to 30-plus from that event and across the city, all with GHB overdoses, all critically ill.”
The Electric Parade bills itself as Australia’s “biggest inner city electronic music festival,”, “delivering the ultimate production along with a next level line-up, this is your chance to experience amazement and bliss. As the sun sets, you are left dancing to the pulsating sounds of the world’s greatest international DJs and Live Acts.”

Apparently, EDM fans got more than just that as rumors of a bad batch of MDMA or ecstasy circulating amongst the crowd was suspected for the mass overdose.
Police arrested 40 people at the festival, including 33 men and seven women. “One man was charged and remanded overnight after quantities of ecstasy, cocaine, MDMA, LSD, ketamine and hash were located on him,” according to a police statement.
