Overwatch’s New Hero Could Be an Omnic Controlled by an 11-Year-Old Girl

Overwatch‘s new Hero could be the weirdest new addition to the game yet, with Blizzard dropping hints that the character could be a Omnic robot like Zenyatta but controlled by an 11-year-old girl.

Blizzard posted an “interview” with Efi Oladele, a Numbani resident with a “brilliant mind” who has “built a resume of impressive achievements in robotics and artificial intelligence.” In the interview, Efi expresses her desire to “build something that can keep us safe, like the new OR15s,” a term currently unknown to Overwatch players, with her accomplishments earning her the Adawe Foundation’s prestigious “genius grant.”

In the interview, Efi states that she has built robots in order to help her with her household chores, indicating that she is already capable of developing artificially intelligent droids like the Omnics. The interview concludes on an ominous tone, with Efi saying: “My parents are taking me on a trip to celebrate! It’ll be my first time flying, so I can’t wait.” If we’ve learned anything from films/TV shows, Efi’s excitement for the her first plane trip means that it’s probably not going to go down without a hitch.

With many speculating that Doomfist would be the next Hero, after actor Terry Crews heavily supported a campaign to have Blizzard let him provide the voice over work for the character, it seems that Efi Oladele will beat him to the punch (no pun intended). However, in the Overwatch story Efi’s home city of Numbani is under attack from Doomfist, so perhaps their stories will collide and Blizzard is simply putting us off the scent by posting this interview.

Knowing Blizzard’s penchant for dragging out the reveal of new Heroes, and given how it wasn’t so long back that Sombra was introduced to the game, we’ll probably be waiting for a little while longer to see if Efi will make her way to the game. Until then, Overwatch fans will be forced to hold tight and wait for yet another ARG.
