‘Sif we didn’t already have enough reasons to look forward to Season 7 of Game Of Thrones hitting our screens (or torrent engines, amirite Australia?), here’s another: the penultimate season of HBO’s protracted bloodbath will guest star none other than your favourite kissed-by-fire popstar, Ed Sheeran.
Lord Eddard has been confirmed to make a cameo in the new season by the show-runners themselves, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who appeared on a panel at SXSW alongside star Stark sisters Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner.
“For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it,” Benioff told fans at the Texas festival (via Variety), explaining that Arya was a big fan of the gingernut minstrel.
To which Turner reportedly quipped: “I’m still waiting on Bieber.”
“You’re waiting on Biebs? Season 9,” Weiss joked (we think?).
While Sheeran’s part in the forthcoming season of Thrones remains shrouded in mystery, an HBO spokesperson did confirm to Variety that “He has a role. No more details”, which means he’ll probably be more focal than some of the show’s former musical guest stars like Mastodon and Anthrax, who played wildlings and white walkers.
Game Of Thrones Season 7 is due to premiere on 16th July. Long may it reign!
