Almost twenty years ago, Roseanne ended its nine-season run on ABC as one of the most acclaimed sitcoms of its era, and arguably one of the greatest shows of all-time. But the fact that there is a Twin Peaks revival in just a few weeks should demonstrate that no TV show truly goes away in the current television landscape. And now, it looks like Roseanne will make a return as well!
According to Deadline, original series stars Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, and Sara Gilbert are attached to an eight-episode revival of Roseanne, with other original cast members also expected to sign on. Barr is executive producing the revival with original series producers Tom Werner and Bruce Helford, with Gilbert and Whitney Cummings also attached as executive producers.
While the revival series doesn’t currently have a home, Deadline is reporting that several networks are bidding on it. ABC would be the obvious choice, given its history with Barr and the original series. But Netflix will probably be a contender, especially since it has already made a habit of rebooting and reviving classic TV series.

Considering that the season finale of Roseanne revealed that Goodman’s Dan had passed away, his inclusion in the revival is curious. But there is a simple solution: just ignore the final season of Roseanne. Almost everyone else did! By that point, the show had largely become a parody of itself. But in the early seasons, it paved the way for a new breed of blue collar comedy on television. It remains to be seen if the revival can recapture the spirit of the original, but nostalgia sells. And it probably will again with this series.
