Characters are once again welcome at USA Network, and it’s time to break out the pineapples! After only three years since the conclusion of Psych, USA has reassembled the original cast for a new TV movie that will be premiering later this year.
USA has announced that series creator, Steve Franks and series star, James Roday have co-written Psych: The Movie, a new two-hour adventure that will reunite Roday’s fake psychic detective, Shawn Spencer with his best friend, Burton “Gus” Guster (Dulé Hill). And they won’t be alone, Maggie Lawson, Timothy Omundson, Corbin Bernsen, and Kirsten Nelson have all signed on to reprise their roles from the series, and they will also be joined by a few unannounced “fan-favorite characters.”
The movie will be set three years after the series finale, as someone close to the group of friends finds themselves as the target of a murderous plot. But don’t expect anything too serious from this one. The official description promises that “a comedic thrill ride follows, as the wild and unpredictable PSYCH team pursues the bad guys, justice …and food!”

Psych: The Movie will begin filming in May for a December debut on USA. In a statement, USA’s Chris McCumber said “Psych is a beloved part of our USA family, and what better time to reunite with family than the holidays…Steve and James have taken the unique brand of comedy that the series honed over eight seasons and packed it in to a two-hour movie that successfully rekindles one of the greatest bro-mances in television history.”
