Exclusive Preview | Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern # 5

Variant covers are fact of life in the comic book industry. But a book like Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern with its unexpected pairings, offers a lot of examples the best kind of variant covers. Here, the artists can cut loose and mash up the two universes without alienating the fans of either series.

Fist up is the main cover by Dan Mora, which finds Hal Jordan and the Green Lanterns overwhelmed by the Red Lanterns and their new members from the Ape society. There’s a lot of rage burning in those hearts, even within noble Cornelius.

Next up is a cover by Mike Mayhew that imagines this meeting of the franchises as if it was a crossover movie from the ’60s.

Paul Rivoche had some fun using a classic DC cover as inspiration for a pose that unites several of the most important characters from the Planet of the Apes films.

Felipe Massafera did the “Spectrum’ variant cover that brings together a few of the different variant lantern corps together. In this one, Zira has become a member of the Indigo Tribe.

Finally, David Ryan Robinson provided a vintage variant cover edition that imagines the crossover as if it was an action figure line.

Planet of the Apes/Green Lantern # 5 will be released on Wednesday, June 14 in comic book stores everywhere.
