Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis was arguably the best Jurassic Park game ever released. Though there hasn’t exactly been many great games based upon Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi franchise, Operation Genesis was criminally underrated at the time of its release, with it proving so popular among those who played it back in 2003 that used copies of the game now routinely sell for over $100 on eBay. Now Jurassic World Evolution looks to provide a spiritual successor to the park-building simulator, giving us the Operation Genesis 2 that we always wanted.
Jurassic World Evolution Announcement
Jurassic World Evolution was unveiled at Gamescom last night, and though its debut trailer only offered pre-rendered footage and no glimpse at its actual gameplay, the announcement that Frontier Developments is at its helm has already got people excited. Frontier was previously responsible for Planet Coaster, the excellent theme park sim that was coincidentally one of CRAVE‘s favorite games of 2016, along with 2014’s popular space exploration game Elite: Dangerous, so there’s a significant chance that they’ll knock this one out of the park (pun intended), too.
One of the main draws of theme park sims is the disasters that can ensue if you make a mistake, and judging from the trailer, this will be a possibility in Jurassic World Evolution. The footage shows a T-Rex bursting from out of the confines of its enclosure, mauling the park’s employees and other dinosaurs as it makes its great escape. There’s also a brief shot of a full-sized park in action, offering a look at the kind of things that players will be able to create in the finished game.

According to the trailer’s description, the game will allow players to “bioengineer new dinosaur breeds, and construct attractions, containment and research facilities,” creating their very own version of the Jurassic World featured in the new Spielberg film series. It will launch on the PS4, Xbox One and PC in summer 2018, with no concrete release date given by Frontier Developments, though it will likely release around the same time as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which will hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
