Xbox One X Press Conference Receives a Collective ‘Meh’

Microsoft hasn’t done a great job of advertising the Xbox One X. With the Xbox One having received very little in the way of system-sellers for nearly a full year now (its last big, major exclusive was October 2016’s Gears of War 4), the powerful, 4K HDR version of the system is a tough proposition. So the console will make our games look better. Great. But what use is it if there are no games we want to actually play on it?

Microsoft staged a Gamescom press conference intended to make us understand why we should be excited for the upcoming console, but it instead served to highlight the reasons why we aren’t exactly biting our nails in anticipation of its launch. The end result was viewers giving the presentation a collective “meh,” bemoaning its lack of exclusives while also poking fun at Xbox’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, who appeared wearing a pair of white gloves in order to finger the Project Scorpio edition of the console.

While the system undoubtedly looks good, and it’s still impressive that they’ve managed to fit all of the Xbox One X’s technology into its small chassis, the biggest takeaway was the continued lack of exclusives the Xbox One will be receiving in the near future. In a particularly searing burn, some viewers began discussing how the console’s vertical stand was “the only new exclusive announced.”

However, the Xbox One X’s launch will see a bunch of both old and new Xbox One games receiving the “enhanced” treatment, allowing them to run more fluidly and look prettier when played on the system. Though it isn’t a guarantee that each game will be able to run at a 4K resolution on the console, it is set to make over 100 Xbox One games look better at launch, so if you’re a sucker for pretty graphics (and you don’t already own a gaming PC), then maybe the Xbox One X will be just what you’ve been waiting for.
