With Disney’s acquisition of Fox now pushing the House of Mouse to own a large chunk of entertainment media in the US, it’s quite logical that the next move for the industry giant is to start its own streaming service to rival the likes of Netflix, Hulu and more.
Over at this year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show), Disney-ABC TV head honcho Ben Sherwood talked and revealed quite a few details about Disney’s streaming service. Sherwood states that Disney-ABC TV will be pooling in 7,000-8,000 episodes of TV content from its library, plus an additional 3-4 original series, and 3-4 movies to the currently unnamed Disney streaming service platform.
One original Disney production fans can expect is High School Musical, which Sherwood mentioned would even have the show’s original producers on board. In addition to that, Sherwood mentioned that an original program based on Marvel Comics is being developed, which seems to be a no-brainer given one of Disney’s biggest guns in its belt is the entire slate of superhero and comics properties Marvel has.
There’s currently no official name, pricing details or release window for Disney’s streaming service, but once it’s made public, you can be sure we’ll be let you know the details ASAP.
