‘The Simpsons’ Is Coming Back To Free TV, But Not On Channel 10

It’s official! The Simpsons is set to make its triumphant return to free-to-air TV in Australia, after Channel 10 lost the rights to the show late last year.

The folks at Seven West Media have purchased the rights to the iconic show in a new deal with Fox, as Fairfax Media reports.

Seven has also secured the rights to MASH in its deal, after it “cherry-picked from the Fox library a number of iconic shows … that are proven and consistent free-to-air performers”, Director Of Network Programming Angus Ross said.

The Simpsons‘ two-decade run on Channel 10 came to an end in October 2017, and weeknights haven’t been the same since.

Channel 10 is believed to have paid around $90 million for its contract with Fox, and industry members have speculated that Seven’s deal could be worth up to $40 million. There’s also speculation that Seven may have secured the rights to Modern Family and The Resident, but that’s yet to be confirmed.

Stay tuned for details on when The Simpsons will be hitting the Channel Seven airwaves.
