‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ Films To Make Phones Part Of The Experience

It’s wise and overall healthy to keep a positive outlook on life. Unfortunately, there is no more trying test of one’s patience than when someone whips out their bright, obnoxious phone in the middle of a crowded theater. Don’t worry, though, because good old Hollywood is hoping to take one of the few sanctuaries left where phones are practically prohibited and make them a bigger part of the moviegoing experience.

Don’t get us wrong, we’re big fans of innovation and are always keeping an eye out for new products and ideas that seek to improve our lives. Then again, do we really need to be in control of the films we’re watching AS we’re watching them? Fox Studios seem to think so, which is why they unveiled plans to move forward with a Choose Your Own Adventure movie at CinemaCon.

Fun is fun though, and if you’re not someone who immediately sees the downside to a dark room full of brightly lit LED screens blaring right into people’s faces, maybe you’ll be interested in the details of how this will supposedly work. Basically, the initiative is called “CtrlMovie” and would allow the audience to dictate the outcome of certain parts of the flick via their smartphones. However, it’s still unclear whether it would simply be a matter of which gets the most votes or if the determination would be made some other way. In either case, wouldn’t there be a large chance you still wouldn’t be seeing the result you wanted, even upon multiple viewings? That’s how they’ll get ya!

Supposedly, the film is to be directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber of The Rock’s upcoming Skyscraper fame, and written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. We still say they are better off going the Clue route and simply presenting each possible outcome to you. Or just ditching this idea entirely.
